Inspection

Reprobel is obligated to the right holding authors and publishers to ensure that the collection is carried out as efficiently as possible. Several ways for conducting the collection efficiently are:

  • Information. Reprobel does its utmost to make the legislation on copying from protected works as clear as possible. People are often unaware of what protected works are. These are not only books, newspapers or magazines, but also include roadmaps, photographs, plans, tables and charts or lyrics of songs.
  • Umbrella agreements. Reprobel has established umbrella contracts with federations and professional associations. These agreements, and the mutually determined number of copies of protected works, are required for the evaluation of declaration forms for companies from these sectors.
  • Contact. In case of doubt, Reprobel will contact the person who completed the declaration by telephone or letter.
  • Additional payment. In certain cases, Reprobel sends a proposal for additional payment.
  • Legal recourse. In the case of serious doubt or clear evidence of unwillingness to comply Reprobel can seek recourse through the means provided by the legislator. A sworn agent can make an on-site visit or Reprobel can request that an additional detailed declaration form be completed. A copy of the request is sent to Minister. Reprobel can also call upon the help of an external expert. These are the first steps in a procedure that can lead to a lawsuit. Reprobel always tries to avoid lawsuits, because after all, authors and publishers have everything to gain from maintaining good relations with all those who make use of their work.
