How are the public lending rights distributed ?

The share of the equitable remuneration for the rights holders of sound and audiovisual works is currently estimated at 16.5%. Auvibel distributes this share. Auvibel is the collective copyright collection society for private copy that represents the three categories of rights holders – authors, producers and artists – each for 1/3 as prescribed by law.

Reprobel pays the remaining 83.5% (which are related to literary, journalistic, educational and scientific works, but also sheet music, photographs, scripts, illustration...) to the authors’ and publishers’ copyright management companies, with the exception of the share for the foreign rights holders. The distribution between each of the rights holders is regulated by these societies. As legally prescribed, 70% of the equitable remuneration is distributed to authors, and 30% to publishers.
